So, here’s our countdown of the five most common questions we hear from first time buyers.

Number 5 – Do I Need a Solar Panel?

The simple answer is no.

A solar panel isn’t essential to enjoy a campervan, and plenty of owners happily camp without one.

If you’re staying on campsites with electric hook-up or mainly using your camper for weekends away, you’ll rarely find yourself wishing you had solar.

That said, a solar panel is one of the most popular upgrades we fit, and for good reason.

If you enjoy wild camping or spending several days away from campsites, solar can help keep your leisure battery topped up while you’re off grid. It also helps maintain your battery when the camper is parked up at home between adventures, reducing the need to plug into a charger.

Think of it as a convenience rather than a necessity. You don’t need it to enjoy campervan life, but it’s a fantastic addition if you like the freedom of staying off the beaten track.

Number 4 – Can I Drive It on My Normal Driving Licence?

Yes, absolutely!

This is one of the biggest surprises for many first time buyers.

A Volkswagen Transporter campervan can be driven on a standard UK Category B driving licence, just like a regular car, provided it falls within the normal weight limits.

If you’re comfortable driving a family SUV or large estate car, you’ll quickly feel at home behind the wheel of a campervan.

Modern VW Transporters are easy to drive, offer excellent visibility and feel remarkably car-like on the road.

Many customers tell us they expected driving a campervan to be intimidating, but after a short test drive they’re amazed at how natural it feels.

Number 3 – Can Two People Sleep Comfortably on a Rock and Roll Bed?

Definitely.

The Rock and Roll bed is designed specifically to provide a comfortable sleeping space for two adults.

When folded down, it creates a generous double bed with plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy a good night’s sleep.

During the day, it transforms back into comfortable rear seating, making excellent use of the available space.

Combined with the pop top roof bed found on many Spartan Campers, you can comfortably sleep a family of four while still enjoying all the comforts of a fully equipped campervan.

Number 2 – Will It Fit in a Standard Parking Space?

One of the biggest concerns for first time buyers is parking.

The good news?

A Short Wheelbase (SWB) Spartan Camper will fit comfortably into a standard supermarket or town centre parking space, making it just as practical for everyday use as it is for holidays.

A Long Wheelbase (LWB) model is, as the name suggests, a little longer than a standard parking bay. However, it’s still very manageable.

In most car parks, simply choosing a space near the edge and allowing the rear bumper to extend slightly over the kerb provides plenty of room without causing any inconvenience.

Many of our customers use their campervan as their daily vehicle, proving that practicality doesn’t have to be sacrificed for adventure.

Number 1 – Where Does Everything Fit?

This is by far the question we hear most often.

Looking inside a campervan for the first time, it’s easy to wonder how you’ll fit everything you need for a weekend away—or even a two week road trip.
