There’s something magical about waking up to the gentle hum of the countryside—the soft rustle of leaves, birds chirping in the distance, and, in this case, the unmistakable sound of something thudding against our campervan. I pulled back the curtain to investigate and was greeted by an unexpected sight: a goat peering intently at its reflection in our side mirror.
My partner joined me at the window, and we both watched, half-amused and half-concerned, as the goat tentatively butted the mirror. It didn’t appear aggressive, just curious, but its antics threatened to leave a mark on the van’s pristine exterior.
We decided to intervene. Stepping outside cautiously, I waved my arms and called out, “Shoo!” The goat stopped and looked at me as if to say, “You talking to me?” My partner attempted a more direct approach, offering a piece of apple to lure it away. To our surprise, this worked—briefly. The goat took the apple, then promptly returned to investigate the shiny mirror.
What followed was a comical standoff: two humans trying to outsmart a determined goat. Eventually, we resorted to covering the mirror with a towel, which finally seemed to deter our four-legged visitor. Satisfied, the goat trotted off to explore another campsite, leaving us with a story we couldn’t wait to share.
Later that evening, as we recounted the day’s events around the campfire, we couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. The Spartan campervans sturdy build had stood up to the goat’s inspection, and we had another light hearted tale to add to our growing collection of camping adventures. That trip reminded us that the best moments often come from the unexpected—especially when goats are involved
